# Notion

Connect your Notion workspace and Pencel can search your pages, read them, and add or update pages and database entries, with your approval.

## What Pencel can do with it

* **Find and summarize.** On Home, ask "Find our client onboarding checklist in Notion and summarize it" or "What did we decide in last week's planning notes?"
* **Keep a database current.** "Add these meeting notes to the Client Meetings database" or "Mark the Henderson project as In review."
* **Pull things together.** "List every project in the Q3 tracker that's past its due date."
* **Write a page.** "Draft a page in Notion with this week's status, one section per client."

What it can reach: the Notion pages and databases you allow when you connect, for searching, reading, creating and updating.

## Connect it

1. Go to **Settings ▸ Connections ▸ Recommended**.
2. Find **Notion** and click **Install**.
3. Your browser opens on Notion. Sign in and allow access.
4. Back in Pencel, the Notion card reads **Installed**.

Notion runs this connection itself, so your pages go between your computer and Notion directly.

## What needs your approval

Creating a page, changing a page, or adding or updating a database entry asks first. The approval card shows what Pencel is about to write. You can approve it, **Edit fields** first, or **Reject** it.

For routine updates you trust, like adding meeting notes to the same database, **Always Allow** stops Pencel asking about that action. In a room, deleting something asks every time.

## Good to know

* **Pencel can open only what you allowed.** If you can't open a page in Notion, neither can Pencel.
* **Rooms use only their own accounts.** A room can read Notion only if it's set up to use this connection. See its settings under **Advanced ▸ Tools & accounts**.
* **Want a page to guide every room?** Put a copy in Knowledge with **Knowledge ▸ Add Knowledge**. See [Knowledge](https://pencel.ai/docs/concepts/knowledge.html).

## Disconnect or change what it can do

Go to **Settings ▸ Connections ▸ Installed** and open the **⋮** menu on the Notion card.

* **Manage Tools**: switch off anything you don't want Pencel to use, such as creating or updating pages. Click **Save changes**.
* **Disconnect**: pause the connection. Click **Connect** to turn it back on.
* **Remove**: delete the connection and its saved sign-in from Pencel.

To also withdraw access on Notion's side, remove Pencel from the connections in your Notion settings.
