# Stripe

Connect Stripe and Pencel can answer everyday money questions from your live Stripe account: what came in, who paid, who didn't, and which subscriptions renew soon. Anything that would change your Stripe account waits for your approval.

## What Pencel can do with it

Ask in plain words, on Home or in a room that uses Stripe:

* "How much revenue did we take last month, by product?"
* "Which payments failed this week, and for which customers?"
* "Which subscriptions renew in the next 7 days?"
* "Which invoices are still unpaid after 30 days?"
* "Draft an invoice for Acme for the March retainer." Pencel prepares it and asks before creating it.

If you ask the same question every week, click **Save as workflow** on the reply and the answer arrives as a document on your schedule. See [Turn a request into a routine](https://pencel.ai/docs/guides/run-and-build.html).

## How to connect

1. Open **Settings ▸ Connections** and stay on the **Recommended** tab.
2. Find **Stripe** and click **Install**.
3. Your browser opens Stripe's sign-in page. Sign in, choose the Stripe account Pencel should use, and allow access.
4. Return to Pencel. The Stripe card now says **Installed**, and the connection is listed on the **Installed** tab.

If the browser step didn't finish, go to the **Installed** tab, open the Stripe card's **⋯** menu, click **Remove**, then click **Install** again. If Stripe later asks you to sign in again, its card on the **Recommended** tab shows **Needs sign-in**. Click **Sign in**.

## What needs your approval

* **Looking things up happens without asking.** Reading payments, customers, invoices, subscriptions and your balance needs no approval.
* **Changes ask first.** Creating a customer, invoice or payment link, issuing a refund, or changing or cancelling a subscription shows you exactly what will be sent. You can approve it, **Edit fields** first, or **Reject** it.
* **Keep money under your eye.** If a room offers **Always Allow** for a Stripe action, think twice before using it for anything that moves money, such as refunds.

See [Approvals and permissions](https://pencel.ai/docs/privacy-and-security/approval-workflows.html).

## Good to know

* **Pencel sees what your Stripe account can see.** It works as the account you chose when you signed in.
* **Rooms only use accounts connected to them.** To check whether a room can use Stripe, click the room's name and go to **Advanced ▸ Tools & accounts**.
* **Try it safely first.** On the Stripe card's **⋯** menu, **Enable Simulation** makes Pencel skip anything that would change Stripe and report what it would have done instead.
* **What Pencel reads is used to answer you.** Stripe data Pencel looks up is sent to your AI model as part of the request. See [Data handling](https://pencel.ai/docs/privacy-and-security/data-handling.html).

## Disconnect or change what it can do

Go to **Settings ▸ Connections ▸ Installed** and open the Stripe card's **⋯** menu:

* **Manage Tools**: switch individual actions off everywhere, or choose which run without asking in chats and workflows under **Auto-Approval** (**None**, **All tools** or **Custom**). Click **Save changes**. Rooms keep their own approvals. With **All tools**, changes such as refunds run without asking outside rooms, so we suggest **None** or **Custom** for Stripe.
* **Disconnect**: stop using Stripe for now. Rooms that use it will ask you to reconnect.
* **Remove**: delete the connection and its saved sign-in from Pencel. To end access on Stripe's side too, remove Pencel's access in your Stripe account settings.
