Linking web pages to Knowledge
You can attach a live URL to Knowledge so Pencel keeps a readable copy for agents and for you to review.
How to link a page
- Open Knowledge → Add Knowledge → URL.
- Paste an
https://URL. A short preview shows title, word count, and import quality before you commit. - Choose a sync schedule (Manual, Daily, or Weekly).
- Click Link URL.
What you see after import
Linked documents open in a read-only rich view (headings, lists, paragraphs)—not raw markdown source. The toolbar includes:
- Sync now — refresh from the live URL
- Open source — open the page in your browser
- Copy markdown — copy the cleaned text
- Save as editable copy — duplicate into a normal Knowledge doc you can edit freely
- Improve import — optional AI pass to remove chrome and tighten structure (review the result)
A quality badge (Good / Fair / Low) reflects heuristics on the extracted text. Low quality often means a JS-heavy site or a layout heavy on links and images; try Sync again or Improve import.
Linked vs editable
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Linked | Stays tied to sourceUrl; re-sync updates content when you have not edited the body |
| Editable copy | Detached doc with sourceUrl cleared; you own the text |
If you edit a linked import and then re-sync, Pencel updates the source snapshot only and leaves your edited body unchanged until you run Improve import or edit manually.
Tips
- Prefer stable article or documentation URLs over homepages with heavy navigation.
- For team or marketing pages, use Improve import or Save as editable copy and trim to the facts agents need.
- Use Templates (Add Knowledge → Templates) when you are authoring from scratch rather than mirroring a website.
