Microsoft 365
Connect your Microsoft account and Pencel can read your Outlook mail, write drafts and replies, and see and manage your Outlook calendar. It works with work, school and personal Microsoft accounts.
The inbox room reads Gmail for now
The Email Chief of Staff inbox room works with Gmail only. With Microsoft 365, ask Pencel about your mail on Home instead.
What Pencel can do with it
- Catch up on email. On Home, ask "Anything from the Riverside project this week?" or "Summarize what my accountant sent."
- Draft replies. "Draft a reply to Sam saying we'll send the quote Friday." Pencel saves it to your Outlook drafts and sends it only after you approve.
- Plan your day. Home can show today's meetings. Ask "What's on my calendar tomorrow, and who's in each meeting?"
- Manage your calendar. Create, move or cancel events, and accept, decline or tentatively accept invitations.
What it can reach: your recent Outlook messages and mail folders, the text of each message, your drafts, and your Outlook calendar.
Connect it
Use whichever is closest:
- Home ▸ Connect your email ▸ Connect Microsoft.
- Connect Microsoft 365 in Home's calendar box, when it asks you to connect a calendar.
- Settings ▸ Connections ▸ Recommended ▸ Microsoft 365 ▸ Install.
Your browser opens. Pick your Microsoft account, sign in and accept the access Pencel asks for. Back in Pencel you'll see a confirmation, and the Microsoft 365 card in Settings ▸ Connections reads Installed.
Where it works
- On Home. Ask about your mail and calendar in the Home message box.
- In a room, only if the room is set up to use this account. A room uses only the accounts connected to it, which you can see in its settings under Advanced ▸ Tools & accounts.
What needs your approval
- Writing a draft into Outlook, and sending it.
- Creating, changing or deleting a calendar event, and answering an invitation.
Reading your mail and calendar doesn't need approval. For routine actions you trust, Always Allow stops Pencel asking. In a room, deleting an event asks every time.
Good to know
- Message text only. Pencel reads the text of a message but can't open its attachments.
- Recent mail first. Pencel looks through your recent messages and can narrow them by sender or date. For something older, say who sent it or roughly when.
- Company accounts. If your organization restricts third-party apps, your IT admin may need to approve Pencel before you can sign in.
- Needs sign-in? If Microsoft ends the sign-in, the connection shows Needs sign-in. Click Sign in on the Recommended tab or Re-authorize on the Installed tab.
Disconnect or change what it can do
Go to Settings ▸ Connections ▸ Installed and open the ⋮ menu on the Microsoft 365 card.
- Manage Tools: switch off anything you don't want Pencel to use, such as sending drafts or changing your calendar. Click Save changes.
- Disconnect: pause the connection. Click Connect to sign in again.
- Remove: delete the connection and its saved sign-in from Pencel.
To also withdraw access on Microsoft's side, remove Pencel from the apps listed in your Microsoft account settings.
