Morning Stock Watch ​

Morning Stock Watch briefs you on the stocks and ETFs you hold. For each one you get the latest price and day move, news you haven't seen yet, and what analysts say. It reports facts only. It is not investment advice.

The room is # stock-watch. Its teammate, Analyst, briefs price, news and analyst consensus for your tickers.

What's in the brief ​

Each brief is saved as a document titled "Morning Stock Brief" with the date. For every ticker it covers:

  • Price: the latest price and the day's move.
  • News: a short roundup that skips stories already covered in earlier briefs.
  • Analyst consensus: how analysts rate it (buy, hold or sell).

Every figure comes straight from live market data, never estimated, and each brief ends with a note that it isn't investment advice. You'll find briefs in the room's Artifacts tab and in Documents.

Pencel also keeps one card per ticker, updated with every brief, so you can see the latest at a glance.

What you need ​

  • Your ticker symbols, up to 25. For example: AAPL, VOO, MSFT.
  • AI access: credits on a Pencel plan or your own API key. See Accounts, plans and credits.
  • No market-data key. Briefs run on Pencel's shared market data. If you want your own, add a Finnhub key (the free tier works) to the Market Data (stocks & ETFs) connection in Settings ▸ Connections.

Set it up ​

From Home ​

  1. On Home, in the What should Pencel find for you? card, choose Stock watch.
  2. Under Which stocks and ETFs do you hold?, type your symbols separated by commas.
  3. Click Brief me.

Pencel installs Morning Stock Watch, saves your tickers, starts your first brief and opens # stock-watch.

From Programs ​

  1. Install Morning Stock Watch from Programs ▸ + New program. See Ready-made Programs.
  2. Open the room. A setup card asks Which stocks and ETFs should I watch?
  3. Type your symbols and click Save and brief me.

Pencel checks your list when you save. If something doesn't look like a stock symbol, it tells you which one. If you list more than 25, it asks you to pick the 25 you care about most.

Get a brief every weekday ​

The daily brief is off when you install. To turn it on, do one of these:

  • Click Run daily when the room offers a daily schedule.
  • Open room settings (click the room's name), go to Schedule, and switch on the Daily Morning Brief routine.

The daily brief runs each weekday morning, while Pencel is open and your computer is awake. It needs your tickers first: until you've saved them, Run daily shows "Add your tickers first."

Want a brief right now? Ask in the room, for example "Brief me now", or click Run now next to Morning Stock Summary under Schedule.

Facts, not advice ​

Morning Stock Watch tells you what happened, not what to do. It never recommends buying or selling, and it can't trade: it only reads market data. Every brief ends with a reminder that it isn't investment advice.
